Review Background
Western Australia has a great school system that serves our students and communities very well. Over recent years, we have seen a growth in important measures such as literacy and numeracy achievement and the number of students finishing Year 12 with a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
While these are impressive outcomes that reflect the quality of our schools and those who work in them, there is an opportunity for us to continue our improvement.
One of these opportunities is in the provision, quality and equity of the pathways we provide for our senior secondary students.
This is an opportunity the Minister for Education, Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA, has recognised and on 21 June 2023, he announced the Pathways to Post-School Success review.
The review will be led by the Department of Education in partnership with CEWA and AISWA, and work with stakeholders across Western Australia to review senior secondary school pathways and make recommendations for potential reforms. The review commenced in early 2023 and will conclude on 1 October 2024.
This work will be completed concurrently with the refreshments to the WACE presently being considered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Board.
